The 2024 Election Report
Needless to say, we are all in shock over the results of this election and need time to process why we Democrats lost not only the Presidency, but the House and most likely the Senate, too, and what lies ahead for yourselves and our country. It's hard to fathom how half the population of the country would elect such a unqualified person and the platform that he and his backers propose. As the cabinet picks are announced, I'm hoping more and more people will begin to understand what has befallen us.
On the bright side, though, we can be proud of our work here in Nevada County, Harris/Walz, Adam Schiff, and Jessica Morse all received 53% of the vote, thereby letting us remain a thin blue strip across the very red portion of California.
Unfortunately, in addition to the Harri/Walz loss, Jessica Morse lost to Kevin Kiley in Congressional District #3.
Locally, we won some and lost some.We had two endorsed incumbent candidates for the Grass Valley City Council, Tom Ivy and Bob Branstrom. Tom has won his seat, but Bob's race is still too close to call. Tim May, also an incumbent, is returning to the Nevada County Board of Education, Trustee Area 2. Trisha Dellis and Debbie Lindh have won their seats on the Grass Valley City School Board.
The lossess include Geoffrey Nelson, incumbent, and Itara O'Connell who were running for seats on the Nevada Joint Union High School District and Karen Hull, the incumbent NID District #3, who lost her seat as well. We are happy for the wins, but devasted for the loss of truly competent incumbents as well.
The Nevada County Democratic Committee is in the process of re-organizing as required by the elections code. If you'd like to know more about the opportunities available, please contact Margie Joehnck, <margaretjoehnck@gmail.com>.
