May 2023 — Update from the Chair

We began the month with our first in-person First Tuesday Educational Forum since the pandemic began. Pizza was served. Attendance was 20+ for an update on social media Trends. It was a fine start, and many are looking forward to more pizza on June 6, when Nevada Irrigation District (NID) elected Board Members Ricki Heck and Karen will tell us all about local water. Join us at our new monthly venue at Nevada County Media Center on Whispering Pines in Grass Valley.

Speaking of repeating monthly get togethers, our second post-pandemic in-person Democratic Central Committee (DCC) meeting was held at the Briar Patch Community Room. Turnout was once again 20+ with old-timers and new commers both enjoying each other’s company. Resolutions were passed, and plans made for parades, the fair, letter writing campaigns and much more. Meeting time is the third Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM. Guests are welcome. Come see how the sausage is made.

At the state level, I am accompanying three fellow DCC ‘democracy partners’ (A.K.A local DCC members) this month to the California State Democratic Party Convention in LA. Among the many activities scheduled over four days in “La-La Land” are a county Chairs meeting, a Nancy Pelosi Dinner event, a Rural Caucus meeting, and many other happenings. I am encouraging all Nevada County attendees to collect swag. Come by Volunteer Headquarters in June and you might just get a convention memento.

See you next month. I have a flight to catch!
