Getting to Know Kamala Harris

By Bill Drake

Kamala Harris had a black father, went to a black university, and attended a black sorority. Yet, in racist attacks, she has been accused by the opposing presidential candidate of making up the fact that she is black!

How do those who are interested in her candidacy learn more about her and share that information with others? A friend of mine came up with a person-to-person campaign she calls “High Five for Kamala.”

My friend proposes that each person who is interested read Harris’ autobiography, The Truths We Hold: An American Journey, and then share five things learned about Harris with five people. This could be done on social media or in one’s living room. Then each of those five people share what they learned with five others. And so on.

Of course, one could come up with a variety of ways to share with others, including having a book club that reads the book. And one does not have to limit themselves to sharing with only five individuals.

We know a lot about Trump, her opponent. Learning about Harris helps us be more informed voters.
