Nevada County Democratic Central Committee

Resolution to Support GV Fire Measure B

Whereas wildfire poses the single greatest natural disaster threat to the City of Grass Valley, and the County Measure (V) to mitigate wildfire threat failed leaving the City without any dedicated funding source for the purposes of this measure; and

Whereas a Citizen Oversight Committee shall be created upon passage of Measure B, a proven practice in Grass Valley with it’s highly effective oversight of Measure E; and

Whereas Measure B revenues will be split equally between Fire Resiliency, and Vegetation Mitigation; providing an estimated $1.25 million for each over the maximum term of the 7 years the measure will be in force; but may be shorter if the funding and work accomplish City goals of meeting National Standards for Fire Safety; and

Whereas Measure B will increase fire fighting and fire mitigation personnel; and will provide funding for fuel reduction through grants to residences and businesses, and funding for fuel reduction in and around the City; enhanced Green Waste Pickup and Drop-off; and funding for long term green waste solutions; and

Whereas Measure B, a 3/8% general sales tax (.00375, or 38 cents per $100) will provide funding for a public education program regarding fire mitigation and vegetation management and an Inspection Program with funding for the staffing to fully implement these programs, and

Whereas Measure B implementation will involve coordination with local Fire Wise Councils, Nevada County, CalFire, and other organizations working locally to prevent and mitigate wildfires thereby enhancing Wildfire Prevention and Mitigation in surrounding areas as well as the City,

Therefore Be It Resolved, that the Nevada County Democratic party endorses and supports this vital public safety measure to ensure the health, prosperity and longevity of our county’s largest city.
