September 2023 — Update from the Chair

This month was back to normalcy after the back-to-back successful hosting of Congressman Adam Schiff at the Grass Valley Events Center and also the Nevada County Fair. 70 individual volunteers acted to bring these two events off both in the same week.

This month Women’s Club met on the first Saturday, as they do like clockwork, at the Helling Library Community Room. This was followed three days later by our monthly routine First Tuesday Educational Forum. About 50 people attended the interactive presentation on climate change. Next, we cut our first commercial at the same location where we hold our monthly First Tuesday. Our educational forums are hosted by Nevada County Media on Whispering Pines Drive. We hope to do more creative projects there soon.

Political Outreach held two events this month, an organizational meeting and a cleanup of the Yuba River.

Two other notable DEM events in September included the Constitution Day Parade and the well-attended campaign kick-off event hosted by incumbent DEM supervisors Heidi Hall and Hardy Bullock at the Golden Era in Downtown Nevada City.

Being active in the community is our essential mission between election cycles. Never a dull moment when defending democracy, our freedoms, and the planet.
