April 2024 Chair Report
I began this month by traveling to the Auburn Area Democratic Club to hear a group called Placer Advocates for Students and Families describe their efforts to elect moderates to Western Placer County school boards at risk due to extremist agitators.
Next was our Democracy Workshop. This training was led by our Get Out the Vote Committee (GOTV) and Political Outeach Committee. They have experimented with doing more and talking less. Formats have been altered to be more action oriented. The innovation is still experimental, but organizers are gratified to have had 60 people joining this maiden event for what previously was called the First Tuesday Educational Forum.
Speaking of doing and not just talking, for the first time this month our sign waiving was held in two locations Broad Street Bridge and the Grass Valley Safeway. Both locations were well attended by activists. The rallies have a new theme “Stand for Democracy” and we will be focusing on saving our democracy and electing Jessica Morse to congress.
The month ended with a fun and successful annual Spring Picnic fundraiser. All sixteen picnic tables were full to overflowing. Additional attendees stood on both sides of the picnic area to hear announcements, some local dignitaries, and CADEM Northern California Regional Organizer Sue Hilderbrand as she introduced CD3 Congressional Candidate, Jessica Morse, who then spoke to the crowd.
This year’s MC was our own Nevada County District I Supervisor, Lisa Swarthout.
Many other local elected officials were welcomed back this year to mingle with an array of local activists, organizers, and each other.
Our goal for the annual fundraiser was exceeded. Special thanks to all who made the event possible.
